Cheddar Garlic Biscuits

Ingredients

  • Biscuit Dough
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 5 teaspoons baking powder

  • 2 teaspoons sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 3 tablespoons vegetables shortening, chilled

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 1/2 pieces, chilled

  • 6 ounces (1 1/4 cups) grated cheddar cheese, preferably yellow

  • 3/4 cup whole milk

  • Garlic Butter
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter

  • 1 clove garlic, grated

  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 425ยบ F. Spray a cooking sheet with cooking spray, or line with parchment paper.
  • Put the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and garlic powder in a food processor. Pulse 1-2 times to combine. Add the shortening. Pulse to combine, about 4 pulses. Add the butter and pulse 4-5 times, until butter is pea-sized. Add the cheese and pulse 3 times. Add the mil and pulse until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn dough onto a surface that is lightly floured. Knead 5-10 times, until the dough comes together.
  • Drop biscuits by scant 1/4 cup scoops,2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until golden, 15-20 minutes.
  • While the biscuits are cooking, make the garlic butter. Melt the butter over low heat. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat and add the parsley.
  • When the biscuits are cooked, immediately brush them with the garlic butter. Serve warm.
