Tomato and Meat Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1/2 onion, finely diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 2 28 ounce cans crushed tomatoes or 1 can crushed tomatoes and 1 can tomato puree

  • 1 cup water

  • salt, to taste (depends on how much salt is in the crushed tomatoes)

  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

Directions

  • Heat oil in a large frying pan or skillet on medium heat. Add onions and cook until soft, about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook until soft, about 3-4 minutes more.
  • Add ground beef. Cook, separating with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 10 minutes.
  • Add tomatoes, water, salt, and Italian seasoning. The sauce will get more concentrated, so do not over salt. Use the water to rinse out the tomato can. Mix well. Cover and reduce heat to medium low. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes.
